Hexastylis Bioblitz by North Pacolet River

Friday, March 27, 2026 (10:00 AM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Join our Natural Resource Manager Torry Nergart on an exploration of a spectacular biological ecology. We will hike and/or shuttle to locations along the North Pacolet River Gorge, including glades and rock outcrops, rich cove forests, and other varieties of habitat and terrain. Prepare for backcountry hiking, and consider preparing an iNaturalist account which will be our primary data collector. We will focus our observation efforts on the Hexastylis section of Aristolochiacaea- the “Little Brown Jugs” wildflower. Once plant identifications are uploaded to iNaturalist, our Hexastylis observations will contribute to bodies of research on the range and distribution of the several species in the genera. Below is the link to the iNaturalist project where we will be recording data: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/hex-flex-26-hexastylis-bioblitz-pacolet-river-gorge Meeting Place: Norman Wilder Forest trailhead, Hwy 176 west of Tryon. What to Bring: Appropriate clothing for exploring and getting dirty and wet! Bring your lunch, snacks, and plenty of drinking water. RSVP is Required.
