Green Drinks: Alicia and Kevin Stump: Urban Farming’s Role in Reducing Produce Insecurity and Food Miles

Thursday, January 8, 2026 (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Learn how urban farming can provide needed fresh produce in areas often lacking close resources. Discuss – and tour! – methods to successfully grow crops year-round on small plots in downtown locations. Pick up ideas for starting your own urban garden. Stump Farms is a small-scale family-run urban farm rooted in downtown Hendersonville, NC. Owners Kevin & Alicia Stump’s mission to bring year-round organic produce to the community stems from a desire to inspire others to farm their own urban spaces, no matter the size. The Stumps prioritize in- and out-of-season growing through covered hydroponics and greenhouse systems. Through urban farming over the past 8 years, their belief in sustainable and hyper-local agriculture partnerships, have created strong connections that show in their retail store and farm-to-fork eatery, The Local Table. Whether supplying local kitchens, farmers markets, or neighbors, Stump Farms is committed to natural farming, food transparency, and supporting a resilient local food system. 5:30 PM: Grab a drink and network with like-minded locals. 6:00 PM: Enjoy the presentation and learn something new! Hendersonville Green Drinks is presented by Conserving Carolina, MountainTrue and The Local Table curated by Stump Farms. Come to Green Drinks to learn more about current environmental issues, have relevant discussions, and meet with like-minded people. This is a monthly event and everyone is welcome. You don’t have to drink at Green Drinks, just come and listen.
