Date: February 10, 2026 Time: 2:00 p.m. Location: Polk County Public Libraries, Saluda Branch Speaker: Heyward Douglass Join us for a discussion of the Monarch life cycle that allows the butterflies to fly north from Mexico through multiple life cycles until they reach southern Canada, then return to their wintering grounds in southern Mexico in one long, hazard-filled “super generation.” Heyward will also describe the group tour he took to view the Monarchs in the high mountains west of Mexico City, in Michaocan (Mish- wa-kahn). Heyward received his B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Entomology from Clemson University. He worked as a naturalist at Oconee and Table Rock State Parks and with the Clemson Cooperative Extension Services. Later, he served on the Board of Directors of the Foothills Trail Conservancy, becoming Chair, and later the Executive Director. He visited the Monarch Butterfly Mexican wintering grounds in February 2020. The Saluda Library Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Polk County Public Libraries Systems.
